Mike seems to have a very dry sense of humor and he shows this in his writing with his crazy similes and comparisons. He knows and accepts the fact that he is included in the MTV generation, but he also sees himself as a bit of an exception when it comes to his views and likes on the world around him. He was like every other teenage guy, watching “Bevis and Butthead” constantly. The show is full of rude, sexual, degrading, and just down right stupid comments, as well as actions. To this day, I’m sure there are guys his age that love “Bevis and Butthead,” Mike on the other hand loves the show, but knows that it’s idiotic. He believes that it showed him how not o act, what was acceptable in society, and definitely what was unacceptable. He thinks that the MTV shows will impact him for the rest of his life. The dating shows, like “Next” that he mentions, shows him how not to treat others. At the same time, It increased his appreciation for others who know how to treat others as they want to be treated. Just like we all learned in kindergarden- the good ole’ nap days. In the television show “Bevis and Butthead” Mike learned how to not be a complete idiot. Even though he found the show to be hilarious, he realized (probably being more mature than most other teenage boys during his time) that he should NOT act like Bevis or Butthead. Thank god for this.
Mike’s writing style is very relaxed, but he seems to have an advanced vocabulary. I loved his comparisons, although random, I found them amusing. He used language that was easier to me to read, because it was almost like he talking to me, instead of writing to me. The language he uses reflects his subject by writing like a teenager from the NTV generation would. Starting out with the “Hello, my name is Mike” is very smart ass of him, which our generation is full of, thanks to shows like MTV and TRL. I’m sure our ancestors are smiling down on us. He brings up good points and presents them in a way that would make probably most teenagers look back to these stupid shows and agree with him. He is almost persuasive in a way. I personally did not mind reading this passage, which is rare, so thanks Mike.
