Top Three

Recalling the last 18 years of my life I can think of 3 specific "things" that have captured my attention and influenced my life. Number three Barney. In my very early years Barney was the show to watch! Forget "My Little Pony" or "Sesame Street", Barney was a stuffed animal that came to life. He was the best. He was big, he was purple and made up great sing-a-long songs! Yes, I can hear those delightful tunes in my head still. I think he really grasped my attention because they played "make-believe" that was my all time favorite game. While pretending I could go anywhere, be anyone, and do anything I wanted! These were good times. Number two: Barbie. Ah, the inevitable "Barbie" doll. I do not think I can even tell you how many "barbies" I owned back in the day, or how many miniature "barbie" shoes, hair brushes or outfits were all stuffed in to a 1.5' X2.5' plastic container that made home in my closet. I had the convertible, the house, the horse... Barbie was awesome. I believe in some sick and twisted way my younger self enjoyed Barbie because it was a type of role playing. When holding Barbie, I became Barbie with long blond hair and pretty blue eyes, yes, Barbie was a tool for my young mind to escape reality and explore feelings and ideas which I probably could not express in words. Finally number one. My all time favorite movie, with out a doubt, would have to be "Mary Poppins". I have no rational explanation of why I was so obsessed with this movie. I would watch this movie 3 or 4 times a day, back to back. My mom tells me that after the movie had finished I would ask her to rewind it and play it again. Maybe I loved the costumes and the different time period, perhaps Julie Andrew's angelic voice inspired me or that magical carpet bag kept me guessing so I had to see if anything else would pop out of it. Looking back everything around me influenced me, everything is still influencing me, in one way or another. There are other things in this world that have influenced me but that would take another blog, but here are a few things that influenced me when I was young and helped to mold me into what I am today.

Later,
Rach

Rachel, you have a great voice. You strongly showcase your personaiity through your writing. I especially enjoyed this statement, "Barbie was a tool for my young mind to escape reality and explore feelings and ideas which I probably could not express in words."
