BP2- Music Television Mike

Well lets see now. His name is Mike and i guess he likes to watch MTV, but he hates to say he liked to watch it? I think Mike is one of those kids who over-analyze what MTV really is. I think MTV is a way for teens and people who love music to see whats new out there. When Mike talks about TRL and how his peers are a bunch of sheep he sounds likes he is up on a pedestal over people that are just having fun. When I try to analyze his writing technique I find it difficult. He starts off by saying he hates to say that he is a part of something that has shaped his character during his teenage years. He then continues to warm up to the thought of these shows on MTv and how he has taken them and formed a connection with them. Some might think that the way he has formed a personality from them is a bit uncommon. When he describes the popular t.v. show NEXT, and how he learned that the cruelty and superficialtiy of this show has actually taught him what not to do to people, he is taking what MTV is doing and saying thats not what he wants to do. In other words he is going as far as taking a silly show and turning it into a warning to himself of how not to treat others. Mike also touches upon a show called Beavis and Butthead. I personnally like what he said about the characters in this show and the show itself. I agree that the show is extremely dumb. I do believe that it is addictive. But what I most agree with is how the simple characters of the show can stand for inner strength and individuality. I see where Mike can take Buttheads character and grasp the confidence that Buttheads character exudes. I beleive that these characters were created for just that reason. I don't quite know where I'm going with this now but anyways. Lets talk about the way Mike speaks to the reader. I might of well have said talks to the reader because thats exactly what Mike does. He talks to reader; he grabs their attention by letting himself accept how he was affected by the shows of MTV. He lets us know how dumb they were but that he still enjoyed watching them and laughing until it hurt. People can relate to him through this. When he speaks the way he does about MTV he is just showing us that he has really been impacted by the show. I would say that MTV is a rebellious sort of network and Mikes writing definitly show this. For example he isnt scared to make fun of the mainstream and crack jokes about whats popular. He calls MTV the church of conformity but he learned how to become an individual through them. This is what I thought about the article.

Yea, I really just thought he took the whole aspect of mindless tv shows teaching him lessons on life way too seriously. Beavis and Butthead is extremely funny. It didn't, however, help me grow to be the person I am today, hah. And I would hope he knew not to dump his girlfriend based on a five minute conversation with a stranger before he was introduced to the show Next. Mike just needs to cool it. I did enjoy all of his insults on the the asinine programs MTV has the tendency to produce though.

You see Spenser, I kind of have to disagree with the first half of your blog. I believe Mike wrote a very real and very true essay. He definitely used a strong type of writing to pull the reader in and help the reader relate to the material. Maybe you do not feel that MTV has taught you things, but I highly doubt that is the case. You probably just don't realize what kind of affect MTV played on your life and the lives of others. I honestly believe that when Mike wrote this essay, he wanted to portray his MTV backround onto those that could relate to him.
