Chelsey's blog post #4

I think that i do assume that teachers are always right. Since pre school days, students always kind of look up to their teachers. Sure, as you get older you realize some teachers are truly crazy and have no idea what they're talking about. But, for the most part i always believe teachers are right. On the other side, I don't believe that my interpretations are wrong though. I believe that everyone interprets things in different ways, that's why we all can't agree on everything all the time.
I only read stories, books, essays, etectera when teachers tell me to. Unless I'm reading something that i picked out because I'm actually interested in the subject, then I don't read. It's not something i usually enjoy. I'd rather be out doing and experiencing real life, not sitting and reading a book. When i approach the reading that the teacher has assigned me, I usually think, "Oh geez another freakin book." It's not a very positive approach so then I think to myself, "Ok, Chelsey, you can do this, it's ot that bad." But that really doesnt help that much. I can't help it, i just dont enjoy reading for the most part.
When stories have several interpretations i like that because then no one is every wrong about what they got from the story. I especially like this because usually I'm the one that has the jacked up interpretation of the story that no one else has. It's usually funny, but not when i fail the test on the book because i perceived it a different way, It's not funny anymore.
While reading a book or story, i try to get into it, especially the narratives, but other than that, i just read. I don't stop and write in the margins, that wastes time and ink in my opinion. But i try to focus on the big picture the book is unvailing to me.

I’m with Chelsey on this. When I was younger, I was taught that there was a right and a wrong answer. I was taught that the teacher had the right answer, and if you dared to challenge him or her, you were going down. They had a textbook on their side, and it was the “teacher’s edition” for a reason. This teacher’s addition was infallible. There was never a gray area when it came to answers. If you “interpreted” your own meaning, your own meaning was wrong. You would fail. You had to write word for word what your teacher had told you days before, and if you didn’t, prepare to have your parents cry when they see your report card. I guess that I had to unlearn that eventually. Once I got into high school, my constitutional law teacher taught me all about interpreting the meaning of the text that we had read, especially about how politicians do it all the time.

Chelsey Chelsey Chelsey...
I feel like I just wrote exactly what you said and I promise that I didn't copy it. I agree that everyone interprets things their own way. And that even though a teacher has a certain interpretation we can't rule out anyone elses interpretation as not being right too. I also don't read for enjoyment its ridiculous. It takes way too long and I would just rather be doing something else. I use to say the same thing when we were assigned new books to read. Well, maybe I used a little more profanity but the same idea. You also mentioned something that I was gonna mention that your interpretations are always jacked up. Mine are too, but I didn't get into it in my blog. But I agree with you on just about everything you said.
p.s. I MADE YOU A FACEBOOK!!!!!

just kidding :P

Well Chelsey, I really enjoyed reading your response - it made me laugh :) In terms of the interpretations, I would have to agree in stating that we all can't agree with each other in everything. That would be a pretty boring world in my opinion! If we didn't dispute each other's arguments, there wouldn't be much excitement in the world...I guess. And in response to your argument for reading books… I definitely have to say that I respect you for that. Experiencing life is an extremely crucial aspect in life that too many people take for granted. It’s nice to hear that there are other people in the world agreeing with me in this subject. Great blog!
