From the beginning of mikes essay I can see that he is really unsure on whether he is embarrassed to say he loves mtv or in disdain of the fact that it has affected him as a person. mtv impacted mikes life in many aspects. For one he grew up watching beavis and butthead one of the dumbest shows on earth. Although he admits it is completely dumb and meaningless he still states the fact that he and his brother used to sneak away just to watch it. Now that seems a little weird, sounds like someone is a little wishy washy in my opinion. His description of mtv shows and how they have impacted his life are interesting. He states that mtv shows have taught him how not to act and how superficial people can be. Which is completely true. He also states that by watching mtv he has learned that being like everyone is okay at times but on the other hand he saw the need to become an individual. Thus mtv provoked him to reach out and become that individual. So mtv has influenced him to become that individual he is today. Mike’s writing style seems very blunt and straight forward he says things just as they are and doesn’t really sugar coat anything. Mikes language displays his awareness to the pop culture and how up to date he is. I see his individuality in his words and how he reaches out to the reader in many ways whether by example or by the fact that we all in someway have been affected by dumb unrealistic mtv shows or we have watched people get humiliated on national tv just to remind ourselves how not to act. But in the end I see mikes writing style as hip and up to date.
