Blog Post #7

I believe that when writing any kind of literature, the audience plays a crucial role in several aspects of the paper. I know that when I start to write an essay, I think about who is going to read my essay and I decide to try to allocate to their tastes when I write. I choose carefully which words I use and the tone I use. I also think about the age group in which I am writing to. Writing to 18 years is much different that writing to 45 year olds. When using similes and metaphors or any sort of reference, it is important that the age group is able to understand the reference. For example, referencing a band or something from the 80s, most 18-21 year olds wont get. In media, targeting an audience is everything because companies are trying to advertise their product to a certain consumer group. Companies decided which forums to advertise their products according to what their consumers watch and read the most. Different advertising groups specialize in this art because getting to the consumer is half the battle. Some consider getting a consumers attention an art, which is why we see innovative and interesting pictures and commercials in magazines and television. However, the advertising world has now expanded and is constantly expanding. Lately, we are seeing advertisements everywhere on the web through pop ups and facebook. One can’t even go on their own page without seeing an advertisement for Obama or something of that sort. Another recent innovative idea in media is promoting products through movies. James Bond has been doing this for years with the stylish cars that he drives. Another forum that companies use are billboards on highways. One can’t help but notice huge advertisements on the side of the road when sitting in traffic. Another aspect of advertising is during an ad or commercial, one is able to notice how many times the ad mentions the name of the product during the amount of time allotted for the commercial. When considering how effective a commercial is, the number of times the name of the product of is mentioned is one of the crucial factors.
