Blog Post 7

I often think about the various audiences my work will encounter. Most of the time I am writing for a teacher but sometimes it is different. In other cases it is for a general audience. I try to keep my papers strong enough so that they can be easily understood by anyone who wants to read them. I think I prefer to base my writing on all readers in general. I want my stuff to be informative and make sense to anyone. When you write papers you are often asked to give your opinion. I believe that all papers should be written with general readers in mind. The audience plays important roles in writing because if you focus your writing on a certain audience then it can give your paper more meaning. An audience can also change the way you write. Toby Fulwiler gives us several examples of how different audiences can affect the way you write. If you are writing for a teacher you must be informative like you are answering a question. If you are writing for a publication you should be clear and simple. Audiences can give help on writing to make it better. In class we workshop each others papers to give us better understanding of the problems with our papers and how our audience views them. Audiences also influence the media. Certain news shows often reflect a republican or democratic opinion because the audience they portray to are members of these parties. Commercials that have toys with loud music and bright colors often are focused toward children. These examples show how audiences influence media. This is the same for advertisements. Companies put out advertisements to get people to buy their product. Of course they are going to make their advertisement reflect the audience that purchases them. Womens perfume displays sexy pictures of women which relates to how a woman wants to feel. This makes her want to buy it. Audiences are as important as the writing and media and advertisements themselves.
