I chose the website Cosmopolitan.com because its related to what my paper two is about, considering i found my article in the October 2008 Cosmo magazine. When I first open the web page i see bright, girly colors like pink, orange, and purple. There are titles taking over the web page that read things like "beauty secrets" or "The Hot Bachelors of 2008." I mean, what more could a girl want? The web page and even the magazine knows that its target readers are younger women. Therefore, they use things and portray ideas that these women are interested in. They use pictures effectively by advertising beautiful women, when talking about beauty tips. Then they also use pictures of good looking hunks along with their articles on the young bachelors. All of this attracts women to read on and explore their web page. I do not think that this website it misleading whatsoever, they are advertising exactly what their articles are about. In addition to that, they provide a list of articles of any subject that the viewer is interested in, allowing them to explore and read more articles rather than just one, therefore gaining more views on a subject, more opinions, more advice, etc.
I think there are times when pictures are more powerful than words and there are times when words are more powerful than pictures. It all just depends upon what you are trying to get across. If someone is talking about a mystical fantasy, i dont think they should provide pictures. This way, its up to the reader or listener to make up there own interpretation of what is going on and what things look like. Everyone's idea of a fantasy is different, let people enjoy that. On the other hand, if someone is trying to get across what drunk drivers can cause, i think they should use pictures. Pictures of hurt families when they find out a loved one is no longer with them because of someone's drunk decision. Or pictures of the cars that are absolutely demolished from drunk drivers. This brings out fear and hurt in people allowing them to feel things. I dont think that words are enough for showing devastation like that.

Chelsey ,
Its interesting that we both did the same magazine! I definitely understand how this magazine is more than what a girl can ask for. There are so many bright colors and things that are interesting to girls. Like the Beachelors of 2008 for example. I mean I didn't think that was very interesting but I can understand how it would be to girls. I really think that the magazine effectively attracts the attention of the women who read them. On the other hand I think that pictures should be included in every piece of literature. I believe it only adds to the overall effect of the images and feelings created by emotion and imaginations. I can't wait to read your paper to see what connections you have made through the cosmo!
