BP#2 "Music Television"

i really enjoyed MIke's essay. I found it's humor captivating and the topic interesting. I also agreed with all f his points. He presents his opinion in an interesting way. It appears as though his audience is of the Mtv generation, however, he is sure to explain every show in estreme detail using his wit to be sure the audience knows where he stands on the issue. Unfortunately, my writing style is not too much like MIke's, yet. I feel when I write about a topic I'm really passionate about the end result is similar to Mike's writing style. It is obvious to the audience that he really cares about the issue of the Mtv generation. I was never really into Mtv, with exception of the show "Daria." The character I'm speaking of is referenced in MIke's essay and first appeared next to Beavis and Butthead. I agree with Mike on all of the shows he talked about, however, I feel Daria is a rare (and possibly the only) exception to te mind rotting programs we're subjected to when watching Mtv. Daria was witty. She wasn't portrayed as doing drugs such as Beavis and Butthead, or as treating people like shit (undeservingly) such as those dating shows Mike spoke of. She wasn't even really seen as cool. She had one friend and a crush on some guy who never noticed her and tended to walk with his hips forward. This show taught me the dry humor Mike uses as opposed as teaching me how "not to act." This show was also the exception in that it didn't try to, as Mike puts it, "dictate to me the popular choice of clothing is and howi should act in public." Daria tended to mock popular culture and definitely didn't dress in the latest fashion. She was always sporting combat boots and dark clothing. Daria allowed me to see that cool is what you make it, and perhaps that is part of the reason they took it off the air. It didn't encourage buying certain things as so many shows do now. While Mtv has done a lot of things wrong, I feel Daria is something it did right.
