Wow! What a great essay by a seminole! I really liked Mike's approach to his essay. He essentially hits what MTV is all about right on the nose. Mike's writing style is a bit sarcastic and ironic, but he is also comical in his sarcasm. I like the way he draws comical comparisons and isn't afraid to say what he is thinking. I wish I could write more like Mike. I would love to have seen Mike's shitty first draft. It was probably full of scribble scrabble consisting of a list of TV shows and MTV logos. Ok I'm getting off track. He mocks MTV for it's controversial ideals, yet like the rest of his generation, follow along in continually conforming to watch the channel. That being said, we can't be too hard on Mike because we all do this is some shape or form. As cheesy and unbelievable as his remarks about how the shows on MTV showed him how to live his life, I genuinely believe he has got something there. Like Ms. O'Malley has showed us, media affects our everyday life and sometimes even changes the way some of live our lives. Mike's language and diction perfectly convey an image of a college student who is writing an essay much like we are and of a member of the MTV generation. I firmly believe that Mike's language portrays his subject matter. The essay is about how each of shows shaped him into who he is today. Now that is a bit of a lofty claim, but I'm sure that MTV did play somewhat of a significant role sculpting Mike's personality. Mike's essay about MTV is a perfect example of the paper we are about to write on how media has affected us over the years, hopefully mine will be as good as his. Who knows maybe my essay will replace Mike's in the On Writing textbook, but probably not.
