I really enjoyed reading Lorrie Moore's "How to Become a Writer." It was by far my favorite reading that I have done in this class. It was a very enjoyable and interesting read. I believe that Lorrie Moore wrote this in a very humorous tone. It sounds like she wanted to be very "silly" with it, but still get her points across. I do not believe that the term "insane writer" is cliché at all. I think all writers have to be mildly "insane" just because they have such vast imaginations. I don't believe that it is a misconception at all that people believe these writers are crazy, simply because I believe they are too; I believe that they are crazy in their own ways, such as their imaginations.
Common stereotypes that people have had in the past about me are things like I am just a dumb jock or a muscle head, while yes, I do enjoy playing sports and lifting weights, I also do very well in school, and I enjoy reading mystery books. I'm not saying these people are at fault because every day I find myself putting stereotypes on people. I think that when we put labels on someone, it helps our brain determine how we are going to act around that person.
Plot is the basic story or grounding of the book or writing. It helps the reader understand what, why, when, where, and how the story is taking place. It is very necessary to have a well written plot to help smooth the reader's interpretation of the writing.
I do believe that five paragraph essays are problematic because they set a limit on what the writer can do with their paper. They might not be able to go into as much detail as they would like, and this may cause them to feel restricted.
In elementary school, and in middle school, I was taught that we were supposed to write in a five paragraph format. When I arrived at high school, the teachers shut that method of writing down. No one was allowed to write in a that type of format, so I've had the chance to change my writing ways.
When I think back on essays that I've read, i find myself more partial to ones that I can really relate to. These essays keep me interested and wanting more from them.

so I read your blog. =] I agree with just about everything you said. Lorrie is pretty silly! for real, getting shot with a shot gun and then setting up a yogurt stand? that's got silly written all over it.
about the stereotypes, I agree that our minds "label" people or things to determine actions towards them but I think when approaching an individual (or object/situation) there should be a unique and individual evaluation so it's not so much a stereotyping. you get what i mean? because you can't expect the same actions/thoughts from every person with the same clothes or body type.
anyway, i liked your bloggage a lot. see ya tomorrow!
