The webpages I looked at related to icons in sport consisted mainly of pictures of athletes and a very brief description of who they are and what they accomplished in their sport. Most either listed the icons or had them set out in a grid. The athletes they made examples of are definitely icons in world sports including Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Muhummad Ali and Michael Schumacher. The websites gave reliable information, however, most of the information was found through links to outside sites. One I did find, a top 10 of icons (http://ezinearticles.com/?Top-10-Sports-Icons-On-My-List&id=1118495), had more information than others. The page does not have any color or pictures but the text implies just how great these athletes were.
My MySpace page is very outdated, so I would guess it doesn’t depict me very well! My Facebook page on the other hand seems to get updated by people other than myself everyday! Due to that, I would say it probably is an accurate depiction of me, although the athletics department had me delete a lot of pictures from it when I got here! I could see how some peoples MySpace or Facebook pages could depict someone they are not. My favorite band, an Australian band called The Presets, has a MySpace page. It depicts their style of music, dance. It’s a bubbly page with a lot of color and bright pictures.
For my topic, I think words are just as important, if not more, than audio and visual mediums. While images could be used to show an athlete in action, and how well they did compared to others, statistics over a wide range can prove a lot more. Visuals could, however, be used to back up a point or provide an example. I personally like to read things, rather than hear them. I take a lot more in when words are placed before me and I have time to think about each one separately.

Hannah!
I can somewhat agree with you in the fact that half of the time I like to read things rather than hear them. For example reading a book is better than watching the movie or listening to the audio-book. On the other side, I don't think that I would be able to just read lyrics without listening to the song itself. It is true, when I read words it gives me time to stop and think about it and interpret it and digest the information. Also, my Facebook page like yours is a very good depiction of me because it includes all of my favourite things and people and places.

Hannah, I can definitely agree with you and say that my facebook page is pretty much a good depiction of my personality, simply because I do update mostly every day. Although I am hesitant to put all of my personal information on my facebook because that can be dangerous, I do list my interests and activities and post pictures with my friends. I think that the images tend to compliment the words on my facebook page, because it gives the viewer a better idea of who I am and a sense of my personality. Also, I agree with you that reading actual words and text is almost always the best way to fully understand or comprehend a certain subject matter, whether it is a book, article, webpage, and even the lyrics to a song. Personally, I am a visual learner, so seeing an image with text helps me to get a better grasp on any subject matter that I am studying.
