Vonnegut’s article was one that grabbed my attention and made me realize and look at some things that I have never really noticed before. Things like my own writing and what kind of writing styles I use. Throughout the article Vonnegut talked about his own writing styles and gave advice on certain styles and certain things a writer should do to become effective. He gave an example and said that it is bad to “ramble on”. Just get your point across and be done with it. I have a hard time when it comes to this because I always seem to just go on with the topic and lose focus on what I am really trying to say. Through Vonnegut’s ideas, he made me realize how much more there was to writing and how you have to convince the reader and get your point across to the reader because the reader is the audience. Point number 6 that Vonnegut tries to get across is that you have to say what you are going to say! I also find myself always looking to try and figure out what I am going to say next. Usually I can say what I have to but sometimes the words don’t always flow. Last but not least is that I have to realize that readers don’t care how smart I am or what kind of grades I make, it is about my content and what my paper is all about.

Hunter,
I can totally empathize with losing focus on paper topic! Seriously, that was my struggle with the last paper we wrote. I went off on so many bunny trails at the beginning even I was losing interest and I was writing!! Also, about saying what you want to say, just getting out what’s in your head on paper is something I fight too. Sometimes I find myself trying to come up with eloquent sentences with big, long words so as to impress my audience but in the end no one even understands what I’m trying to say. So you’re right it’s all about content, content, content!!!
Cheers,
R
I tend to ramble on as well, i've noticed. I always start bringing in all these minor details that somewhat support my ideas but not as well as some others could have and I think that sometimes I lose the readers completely. As cliche as it might be, short sweet and to the point is usually the best route when voicing your ideas in writing.
