Blog Post 5
Mark Mason’s essay about graphic novels and things like that was pretty helpful to me although it was pretty dull. It taught me something’s about writing papers but it always was like a story that keeps running on and on. As the reader, I could tell that every time Mark resubmitted his drafts it got better and better. When it comes to self revision, which is what Mark is doing, I think that sometimes it helps to self revise but sometimes people self revise their papers to many times. Everyone expects or wants to write that perfect paper, but it can’t happen if you’re the only one reading and revising the paper. It helps to have a different pair of eyes read the paper or essay so that they can see or pick up on things that don’t make sense and other mistakes throughout the paper. I’m not going to lie, I love to try and self revise my own papers and not pay attention to other peoples feed back because sometimes I am selfish and want to just do it all by myself. When it comes to the title, my perspective is that the essay or the reading is going to be really boring and dull. It really doesn’t connect to the essay at all either so I think it was a bad title choice by Mason. In the end I think that Mason’s revisions helped him but he is probably the first person I have ever seen be able to self revise a paper and keep improving as he went along. In the long run I think that it is always safe to have some other people read over and revise what you’re thinking and your ideas. Usually two heads are greater than one and that’s what you have to use to your advantage.
