Blog Post #11 (last one)

Well, overall I had a good time creating this anti-ad, although I did struggle with certain aspects of assignment. I particularly liked how we had the freedom to pick any advertisement that we wanted and spoof it. I believe that when a writer or student is given that kind of freedom, the level of quality of the work is elevated considerably because he/she is passionate and interested about the piece of literature. One thing I did struggle with was the page length. Often times when a paper is around 6-7 pages, I find myself coming up short. After looking at the ad busters site, I realized that I could literally spoof anything I wanted to and I became excited at that notion. I had a lot of ideas but some of them were not really feasible. I was considering a few other things besides global warming, which was my topic. I was thinking about perhaps doing something with smoking like the truth ads but I decided against it. I was also thinking about doing maybe something with burger king or KFC, but ultimately I decided that global warming was the best topic for me. I definitely enjoyed making my commercial the most. I have not really used iMovie that much but it is a really cool program. I figured out how to take videos from Youtube and reload them again when I had done my necessary edits. Making the commercial took me one tenth of the time it took me to write the 1,800 words needed. Nevertheless, I absolutely support and approve of creative writing projects where some freedom is lent for a personal twist on the work. Creating an anti ad was definitely harder than I had expected. Tons of thought goes into advertisements. An effective advertisement is almost priceless though. When creating my spoof ad, I could not imagine this being my job. Trying to think of different ways to reach the general public is not easy. If I had another attempt at this assignment, I would probably film a commercial just to see if I was capable.

I agree with your point about students picking our own topics. this was especially useful to me with our paper three because i wasnt as interested in this paper as the first two papers. Being allowed to pick out topic helped me out a great deal. It helped me become more interested in the paper's topic, therefore making my writing better. I beleive that everyone writes better papers when they're actaually somewhat interested in the content of the paper. The anti-ad also gave us more freedom with the paper since we could pick out any advertisement we wanted and spoof it. I believe my final paper ended up being better than i thought it would be because we were allowed alot of freedom with the topic and our ad.

wow great statement "I believe that when a writer or student is given that kind of freedom, the level of quality of the work is elevated considerably because he/she is passionate and interested about the piece of literature." I concur.
I totally feel you on the page length. that's something I'm going to have to remedy before the eportfolios are due (yipes!). I just seem to write nonsense though when I'm out of words. Oh well whatever gets the job done right?
You made a commercial? that's sweet! i'll definitely check that out. I've used the sony version for film editing and it was really nice, I forget the name of it though. It's really fun to make your own films too. I had a couple of Spanish class projects due in high school and used original films and the editing program and I think they came out pretty darn nice. haha, just a side note. k dokie see ya later.
