When I was told that we get to create an anti-advertisement, I was very happy. While I do like to write…somewhat, getting to use a different program other than the same old Microsoft word was a nice change. When I first went on adbuster.org website, I found that there were not that many anti-ads, which really surprised me. You would think that a website whose name is “Ad busters” would have like every type of ad spoofed. I must have guessed wrong then. With the limited amount of ads on the website, I was sort of relieved because it gave me a broad range of ads to spoof other than the few companies listed. For this last assignment I had so many ideas running through my head that I found it really hard to narrow it down. I had ideas to spoof ads on: covergirl, the dove “Real women” ads, your typical McDonalds ads and I was even considering doing a commercial spoof on Jack in the box restaurants. The possibilities were endless, but eventually narrowed it down to Nike because of how they sponsor many Universities (including Florida State) and also because three-quarters of my closet is comprised of Nike shoes, socks, shorts, spandex and sports bras. I enjoyed thinking of the ideas better than creating it because honestly, Photoshop was a pain in the butt the first couple of times. Now that I have used it multiple times, I am more comfortable with it but I liked brainstorming better. I don’t think that creating the anti-ad was that hard, the only thing would have to be the resources needed to do so would have been nicer if I had them on my computer. Other than that I fully enjoyed the assignment because it also incorporated images and text together.

I love how you decided, not to go and make fun of companies that you had little or no interaction with, but rather, the company that had the most influence over you. I think it’s great when people are able to look at what they have, look at how it’s viewed in society, and laugh. I don’t really know if anyone took this anti-ad thing way too seriously and made their ad out of complete hatred for a certain company or product, but it’s most definitely more effective when you don’t get emotional with the topic, and you just kid around with it and tease it instead.
I also agree that getting away from Microsoft Word (or, in my case, Microsoft Works Word Processor, which is the cheap, generic, step-above-notepad version of Word) for even a few moments was a blessing. Between essays for this class, essays for other classes, and using it to spell-check every document that runs by the computer monitor, I was sick of the program, and I’m sure that everyone else was, too.
