((Explanation for picture. Two words, "Texas hair"))

After reading Steiner’s essay I felt a great sympathy for him and yet, even a distant rapport. Does that make sense? However my feelings are completely beside the point.

I loved “Why I Write” by Terry Williams. How he wrote is practically how I think. Hahaha! I love to make lists, especially of my goals. I also make lists of homework and such but usually after I write those lists I never look at them again… helpful, I know.

Now, I’ve read the prompt a couple of times and I don’t know who Lee is so I’ll discuss Steiner’s and Williams’ pieces, okay? Okay. So I was reading these pieces trying to see stereotypes and I guess, yeah, I stereotyped the woman in Steiner’s essay. I mean, stereotyping sounds so harsh maybe it’s less to say I assumed her actions were normal considering her impaired state. See I totally believe that stereotyping stems from ignorance and I will openly admit that in the situation of daily dealing (or any contact) with someone who is incapacitated is beyond me. I’ve never been drunk and I don’t usually hang out with people who get drunk, in fact I’m not completely sure I could tell if some one was actually drunk unless their behavior resembled something to that which I would have seen on T.V. or watched in a movie. Considering T.V. and cinema are fictional (for the most part) I doubt I could take them as an actual representation of real life. So yes I suppose I stereotype her and assume her behavior stereotypical. And because this is based on true occurrences I attribute credibility to this account and will apply it to other stories of drunkenness. Okay so that’s how I feel “stereotypically” of the woman in the story now of the man. I don’t know if I find his attitude stereotypical but I certainly do not count it impossible or improbable. Certainly it must happen, right? I mean it happened to this guy the same could be true for another.

Reviewing Williams’ essay I don’t find a stereotype. Maybe because I relate to him oo that’s kind of exciting, am I being stereotyped? Probably so. But are stereotypes correct, not always. =] Anywho.

Later,

R

sorry, just saw that Steiner is a woman. My bad. Please substitute the words "man" and "guy" with the appropriate words I'm sure you can come up with yourself. =] sorry again!

When I saw rachel's picture, I immediately thought of jocks and cheerleaders and how they are stereotyped as well by society. In high school, if you play sports or football, you are sometimes considered as dumb and unintelligent and if you are a cheerleader, you are thought of as groupies and blonde hair and blue eyes. I believe that in high school is where stereotyping happens the most. People are grouped into cliques by looks and according to what sports they play, or what their hobbies are, instead of just being friends with whoever you like or like to be around.
