I honestly have no idea as to what stereotypes that Steiner was attempting to portray.  I felt like I was reading about a person who had a drunk as a friend that she lived with.  I thought that the writer just was expressing how she felt for this roommate.  I did not understand how the writer was talking about stereotypes at all and I read a bunch of the other blogs and i still could not perceive the point of the story.  I can't say that I put a stereotype against the writer, only the person who got drunk everyday.  I labeled her as a drunk and a person that was not strong willed enough to make herself quit drinking again.  I pictured her as a meek individual that lived for and needed alcohol to continue living her life. The only assumption that I made against the writer was that she just really cared for and her friend.  I pictured her as trying to understand why her friend drank so much and why she herself did not try to stop her.  Yea, I guess I can honestly say that my perception of both the writer and the writer’s friend changed.  At first, I wasn’t too sure about what I was about to read.  I was stunned when I read the actually story.  It just took me by surprise.  But anyways, my opinion of the drunk was formed and altered after I read the entire story.  I did not think that the drunk was any kind of bad person or anything just the fact that she could not do anything to help it.  My opinion of the writer was kind different because I did not understand why she didn’t offer the drunk any help to get better.  I really wish I would have been able to understand more clearly what stereotypes the author was trying to make.

Chace, I completely agree with you in that I had not even a hint of an idea that Steiner was stereotyping anyone in her sotry. However, I did stereotype her roommate the drunk but that was about it. Definitely, the roommate, was not strong enough to help her body and herself by giving up drinking but was by no means a bad person. I believe that Steiner's roommate was a person who was never really loved so she turned to drinking to fill that void. It is very sad when I think about it.
