I do not actively think about stereotypes but since we were warned to look for them in this essay I tried my best. I could see how some of the things that the auther was discribing could be seen as "stereotypical" such as the bottle caps everywhere in the apartment and her comment about light beer not being a real drink to a real drinker. that sounds like something an alcoholic would say, but at the same time that doesn't make you an alcoholic just because you think light beer isnt "real" beer, its just an opinion. Its the accumulation of things that makes you something or does not make you something. This is why I don't think in stereotypes because every situation is different and it is the person behind the action not the action itself that is important. That being said the essay mostly made me feel very wierd like I new the auther personally. Of coarse I can say that for most personal essays that are writtin with this conversational and personnal tone that I read. I guess I just like to find similarities with myself and what I am reading about to more fully connect with and enjoy what I read. I would probably stay with her too as well as worry and do the other things he discribed. Although I would like to think that I would do more for her than just let her do this to herself. I would at least accompany her when she goes to drink so that nothing bad happens to her if no take her to rehab, which sounds like a more responsible thing to do.
